This is an updated version of the CYOR shown below, with a new look that was made possible by the skinning features in Flash Builder 4. The original Photoshop design was first opened in Flash Catalyst, and this was used to build components and skins to use in the final Flash Builder app.

This is the Fine Woodworking version of the quiz below for Fine Cooking. Swapping the XML file and changing some graphics and CSS in Flex allowed me to re-use the same code.

A simple quiz for Fine Cooking. I created an XML-driven engine using Adobe Flex that we were able to use with multiple skins for several of our sites. Web producers are able to easily update the questions by simply editing the XML.

Create Your Own Recipe

This is one of a series of online applications for Fine Cooking that allows members to create a recipe by dragging and dropping ingredients. You can adjust the recipe and then print it out or save it to your “favorites” on the site. This was built in Flex with the data in XML, and it integrates with a dot net web service for saving.

A Flash-based game that allows entrants to design a sewing room from a choice of decor options including furniture and equipment from the game’s sponsors. I created all the art for the background and incorporated photos from the sponsors. I then assembled and coded the whole thing in Flex 3 in about a week.
The game has proven very successful, with over 5000 entries in less than a month, greatly increasing the site’s traffic and memberships. It has been the largest traffic draw the site has ever had.
A simple Flex-based application for people to easily listen to the proper pronunciation of the latin names of plants, for Fine Gardening.
A multi-chapter set of videos and content aimed at beginning woodworkers. Originally hand-coded in Flex 3 with the Akamai API, later updated to use the Brightcove API.
